Makers Art Studio is a brand new facility in Port Saint Lucie, Florida – and, if you ask me, it is exactly what our community needed.

I love painting, but I don’t always want to paint. I love making wooden signs, but I don’t need hundreds of them.
Makers Art Studio has different projects all the time – for kids and parents alike! The owner, Jaime Mazzo, is a full-time teacher in Saint Lucie County. She opened the space for kids (and adults!) to have a place to create outside of the classroom.
“The classes are child centered in that I’ll teach them about artists or art to inspire them, as well as art techniques.” Mazzo uses high quality media to guide the kids through exploration. It’s important to her that people have “choices in their artwork”.
We are really lucky to have a few local options for our young creators with pottery and paint classes available in the area. Makers Art Studio stands out, however, because the kids create completely unique projects each time.
The classes at Makers Art Studio are set up in monthly semesters. This allows Mazzo to work with the students on larger creations – beyond what could be done in one hour. Since opening in mid-May 2019, her students have created giant 3D hot-air balloons with plaster, papier Mache, paint, and weaving; Little Explorer abstract art with preschoolers; lovely llama structures for ages 10 and up; and a printmaking workshop all about butterflies and nature.
So, if your littles are interested in becoming an artist, 2D or 3D art exploration, or learning to sew – you’ll want to sign them up for the next round of classes!
(Heads up! Our readers can get a 15% discount on their first month of classes, just by mentioning The Merry Kate when signing up!)
Now, one of my favorite offerings at Makers Art Studio is the art menu. Because of time commitments and just chaotic schedules, I can’t always make a full semester of art classes fit. But we always have time for a drop-in session!
New art menus are constantly released for kids to come and create a specific project that suits their fancy. So, keep your eyes peeled! The price depends on the project, but they seem to range between $8 and $20. For our woven rainbows, the activity took about an hour and fifteen minutes – and the girls left with a beautiful piece to hang in their rooms!
(INSIDER TIP: Be on the lookout for other “drop-in” offerings! Our first experience at Makers Art Studio was actually for a Father’s Day craft! We immediately fell in love with the space and just keep coming back for more!)
Once a month, Makers Art Studio is open for kids to create (in a safe space) while Mom and Dad go out on the town! Special stations are set up with bunches of craft supplies, so the kids can build and decorate to their hearts’ content.
They usually take place on a Friday night from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Be sure to call NOW to grab your child a spot for this hot-ticket event! (I heard that the June kids created their own roller coasters! 😳)
Adults can join in the fun, too! Each month, Makers Art Studio offers an option for grown-ups to come and make something special. In June, the focus was on Acrylic Pour. July was a Warhol-Style class where participants will paint a picture of their child or pet!
Be on the lookout for upcoming options for adult classes – maybe make it a date night!
All in all, Makers Art Studio is the premiere destination for creative expression in Saint Lucie County.
Our family is so excited to have this awesome resource available in the neighborhood!
